Torver village itself there are 2 pubs both serving food, pony
trekking centre and
a garage.
At Torver jetty on Coniston Water, there is
a passenger ferry which does regular scheduled trips calling at
various points
around the lake.
In Coniston village there are a number of pubs
and hops, a restaurant, petrol station, post office, Co-Op supermarket
and Barclays Bank as
well as the Ruskin museum.
The picturesque village of Hawkshead
and Grizedale forest with information centre and cycle hire are
only a short drive away.
Ambleside with its wide range of outdoor
clothing shops and eating establishments is only 15 minutes away.
Boat hire and water skiing
instruction can both be obtained on Lake Windermere.
If entertainment
for children is required, Muncaster Castle and Owl sanctuary
is only a short drive to the North, with
steam
train rides
linking up with the Windermere ferries at the Aquarium of
the Lakes. For younger ones, the Beatrix Potter museum is situated
in Bowness.
